<image:title>Wilding Education Blog - The Economy of Being Wild as it Relates to Sweetness in the Long and Short Run: Who’s Example to Follow? - Welcome to the first blog on Wilding Education’s blog-page and hello. I feel honored to be writing here as an “awareness enthusiast” personally and professionally, as well as being Storm Stewart’s mother! Awareness enthusiasm (commitment) is a pathway to building a beautiful interior life reflecting our true and wild innermost nature. At Wilding Education I encourage the question of how and in what way can we nurture the true sweetness of our connection to nature, naturally, in and all around us? My background is in the immediate access to potency of meditation practices for the last 30 years. To know more go to www.makingsanctuary.com</image:title>

First published December 2022 What does sugar rich equate to? Dig in to this paper! 3 Oreos and a half a can of soda equivalent will do quite some damage, while being publicly treated as innocuous.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Freya Liu - Freya Liu.</image:title>
<image:caption>— I grew up in Tianjin, a coastal metropolis in China and immigrated to the US for graduate school. I went to the University of Georgia for my PhD in psychology, specializing in neuroscience and behavior. During my doctoral study, I studied wild capuchin monkeys in Piaui, Brazil and their percussive tool use behavior, social interactions of gorillas in Zoo Atlanta, and other projects with young children and college undergraduates. I also travelled to Great Britain and Japan for academic conferences and study and collaborated with researchers from Italy and Brazil. After graduation, I worked as a tenure track professor in UNC Pembroke and SUNY Oswego in the psychology department, teaching Physiological Foundations of Behavior, Animal Cognition, Developmental Psychology and Research Methods. Then I had my first-born and everything changed. Becoming a mother was a life-transforming and empowering experience full of wonder, love and introspection. After our family moved to Seattle, I changed my career trajectory and decided to focus on my two young children who are growing up so fast. Thanks to the mild climate and open-mindedness among Seattle parents, we have outdoor preschool here and my children both went to outdoor preschool and we all loved it. So building a school that provides outdoor education to school-age children and teenagers becomes a vision as my children grow up. Being outdoors is so natural and healing for all of us, not to mention all the benefits from improved cognition to calmed emotions to better health. Yet school age kids spend most of their time indoors, we all need more nature therapy. I am grateful to have met Storm who shares the same vision on outdoor education and a passion for providing more outdoor programs to school age children.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I grew up in Tianjin, a coastal metropolis in China and immigrated to the US for graduate school. <image:caption>— Born and raised in the ever-enchanting Pacific Northwest, Mei is familiar with its green landscape and marine air and changing seasons. She is an avid gardener indoors and out, plant forager, local cat lady, and most importantly, loving mother to her two children. Mei worked as a pediatric registered nurse for over a decade at Seattle Children’s Hospital before choosing to focus solely on motherhood. She is competent in childhood development and a compassionate caregiver. She homeschools her children and believes the best learning comes from following our interests. At Wilding Education, Mei is a program coordinator and assistant mentor to Storm Stewart. She hopes to nurture the inner child of each student and learn alongside them in the natural world.</image:caption>

<image:caption>— I was born and raised in Versailles, France. Having the example of my older siblings traveling and working abroad gave me the spark to discover some new places in the world. My Master in International Business allowed me to study in Chili and to discover some wonderful countries in South America (Peru, Bolivia and Argentina). My attraction for Latin countries led me to settle in Madrid (Spain) where I lived four years and worked in the aeronautical industry. I started to date a Spaniard, who is now my husband. In 2008, we moved to Seattle for for a one year project for an airline company. We fell in love with the PNW and all the outdoor opportunities the environment could offer to us. So 15 years later, we are still here! Cycling, backpacking, hiking, skiing and snowboarding are our pillars in our lifes. Between 2015 and 2017 we had to put "on hold" all our hobbies after welcoming our two boys (aged now of 8 and almost 6 years old). Now, we are back to the trails and slopes with them! As active outdoor parents, we were pleased to enroll our kids in outdoor preschools. When we started looking at elementary school in our area, we could not find any outdoor school. So with other homeschooling mums, we took up the challenge to create our own forest school, offering a mixed-age range kids classroom. It has been now a year our kids are rushing to come to this forest school. They are so excited to learn what nature can offer to them (making fire, carving, birds watching, recognizing eatable plants...). My family is feeling so blessed to have Storm as a mentor, with his amazing background as a nature educator, is sharing all his skills and love for nature at Wilding Education.</image:caption>

<image:caption>— Born and raised in Minnesota, Storm began his profession of guiding youth to enriching outdoor experiences at age fourteen (2011). Since then, he has cared for and mentored hundreds of children as well as directed multiple seasons of outdoor programing. Now, Storm is elated to be involved with Seattle families weaving nature education and community together. He feels lucky to be aware of a longing for people to learn alongside the natural world, and to be someone who can help facilitate that connection with others. After meeting and getting to know Freya Liu in 2022 and her vision for her family, Storm became inspired to join Freya and other families of Seattle in bringing about a better world by founding Wilding Education. As a mentor, Storm is inspired greatly by the 8-shields mentoring model which helps his teaching curriculum orbit around an empowering set of routines such as singing songs, telling stories, sharing gratitude, meditation practice, hazard awareness, and paying attention to child curiosity and where it's signaling the most emergent and potent learning opportunities. Outside of his professional life, Storm enjoys snowboarding, traveling the world, permaculture, spending time with loved ones, all forms of art, and playing games– especially outdoor games! With over 10 years of professional experience guiding youth outdoors, he continues falling in love with the myriad relationships nurtured within the natural world. He is grateful for the lineage of teachings of which he is a part. Storm is inspired and dedicated to share and evolve with you.</image:caption>
