Althea Jones

Althea Jones started at Woodland Park Cooperative School in 2017 as a parent and worked as their preschool teacher from 2019 for 6 years. Her teaching style is child-centered, focusing on respect for the child as a person, and play-focused with the understanding that children learn about their world and the people in it through play. She allows children to take the lead with their learning and gives them the space to do that while connecting with them in a way that meets them right where they are at any given time. Althea believes in providing an atmosphere that is varied, empowering, and fun.

Althea has a Master's degree in Library Science.

In her free time, Althea enjoys gardening, reading up on topics such as neurodivergence, neuroscience, and the brain-body connection, and preparing natural remedies, like herbal tinctures and salves. As an avid reader, she is often absorbed in a good book.

Althea is also a Parent Coach specializing in Neurodivergent children and their families. She offers parent coaching and parent education talks. The most recent one is titled “"How to talk to kids (so they can think and understand)" held at Thinkspace SEATTLE.

Meanwhile, Althea continues her professional development in the Lineage Teaching by studying Coyote Mentoring with fellow mentors and through Wilderness Awareness School’s Introduction to Coyote Mentoring Training.
