Little Bear.


Little Bear grew up outside of a small logging town southeast of Eugene Oregon, where he spent much of his life exploring nature, his father worked for the U.S.F.S. as a Civil Engineer and surveyor. Little Bear learned camping, fishing, and hunting from his father.

Little Bear did not know what trail hiking was until the early 90’s being that he and his dad just used trails as a means to get into the deep forest. Little Bear now resides in the foothills of Duvall Washington on Forest Stewardship land.

In the mid to late 90’s, Little Bear trained under naturalist, the late Elizabeth Gates. Since then, Little Bear has been a student of The Tracker School run by Tom Brown Jr., and student of tracker, story teller, and anthropologist, Jon Young who co-founded W.A.S., founded the 8 Shields and The 512 Project; 2000-2001 graduate of the Wilderness Awareness Residential Program/Anake under Jason Knight (Founder of Alderleaf Wilderness College) and cougar tracker and researcher, Paul Houghtaling; participated in Jon Young's 'Art of Mentoring' week long intensives on three occasions, J.Y.'s 'Advanced Language of the Birds' week long intensive; co-instructed W.A.S. 'Art of Mentoring'.

In 2003 he apprenticed in both Roots and Wings (4-6 year olds) and what was known back then as Youth School with W.AS. starting off as a helper his in his first Summer Youth Programs and then worked with monthly, weekly, and Summer Programs for the next few years. Including participating in the first WAS 9 month Mentoring Program.

Was an instructor for WAS daughter school, Vashon Wilderness Program for a year with their 4-6 year program.

Participated in a Scouting program with Cascadia Wild in early 2000’s working with families with hemophilia in the Wallowa Mountains of Oregon.

Tracked wolves in Idaho with W.A.S. on numerous occasions as a student and later as a volunteer instructor with adults and twice as an assistant instructor with teens;

Studied cougars as a volunteer with Project C.A.T. in Western WA under the guidance of the late WDFW predator specialist, educator, story teller, and biologist Rocky Spencer;

Ran a 7 part course called "Communing with Nature and the Sacred Feminine" for women and "Communing with

Nature and the Sacred Masculine " for men; is a Reiki level 2 practitioner and student/practitioner of Niasziih Level 2 through Wilderness Fusion;

Instructs nature based self defense including self defense and awareness classes especially for women and children;

Little Bear enjoys facilitating the discovery of our connection with life through various realms of awareness. As a mentor and inspired by Inner Vision and Lineage teachings;

Little Bear brings great passion for living intimately with the natural world and shares that passion with others.

Little Bear has been with Quiet Heart Wilderness School since 2008 instructing Earth based skill programs, then in the winter of 2025, Little Bear joined Wilding Education.
